Jesus calls Matthew
In Matthew 9:9-13, Jesus calls the tax collector Matthew to follow him. Matthew follows immediately and invites his unloveable friends to have dinner with Jesus which upsets the Pharisees and begins a controversy. The good news is, Jesus came for the sick, not for the well. He came for sinners like you and me, not the righteous.
Jesus, God’s Sign
In Matthew 12:38-50 Jesus responds to the Pharisee’s request for a sign proving his divinity. In detailing his response, Matthew points us to what Jesus calls The Sign of Jonah, a parable about a haunted house, and a short interaction between Jesus and some family members.
