In Matthew 22:15-22, the Pharisees send their disciples along with the Herodians to trap Jesus with a tricky question about whether or not they should pay the Imperial Tax to Caesar. Of course, Jesus will not be trapped, and with his famous phrase, “give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s” he sums up the New Testament’s entire teaching on God and Government.
